Nick and I do Friday Night Date Nights. More often than not we eat out and come home to relax afterwards. We usually alternate between two places and tonight was sushi night. It was delicious.
If you're new to my blog, I did a post explaining why it is important to have date nights and you can read it here. So, without further ado my Friday Favorite is our date night and this delicious sushi! What is your favorite type of sushi and do you ever have date nights?

Plus Size Date Night Outfit
Nick and I had our date night and I felt like jazzing up a little more than normal so I decided to share what I wore and how much it didn't cost! Living on a budget at its best!
Blouse: $11 at Ross
Skirt: I got this black lace skirt several years ago at a Lane Bryant outlet store. I don't remember exactly how much I paid for it, but I know it was under $20.
Shoes: I bought these shoes for $21 at Ross in August.
*Prices are all rounded up.
Basically, the only thing I bought for this outfit was the blouse and it was under $12. The rest of the outfit I already had.

Why You Should Have A Bucket List
I believe Bucket Lists are important. I didn't have a bucket list until 2012 when my co-worker and good friend, whose blog you can read about here, showed me a bucket list from Charleston Magazine. Now, obviously, this was a pre-made bucket list but I have added things to the list as I started marking items off.
I realized how challenging, fun and rewarding my ever-growing bucket list had become. I think it is important for everyone to have a bucket list for several reasons, which I will list below, but mainly because we all have things we want to do and most of us typically say, "I will get around to it someday." But more often than not we never get around to it or if we do then we don't catalog or note it. I have my bucket list and I have crossed off, dated and photographed (most) of my bucket list items. Each time I look back at my bucket list I see the dates from over a year ago and it always brings back memories and also gives me a feeling of self accomplishment because I have set out to cross off these items and I have been since this list was created. So, enough with my opinions as to why we should all have lists of our own and to the reasons it makes sense to have a list.
REASONS TO HAVE A BUCKET LIST
1. Everyone needs a hobby and something to look forward to. Tomorrow isn't guaranteed so why not try doing what you want to do now. Stop wasting time and start living.
2. It helps you set, stick to and accomplish goals.
3. It improves your quality of life and brings about happiness and motivation.
4. Self gratification
5. Makes your life feel meaningful (even though all lives are meaningful this gives us control of what we want and what we do to an extent).
Although I have been hard at work marking items off my bucket list, I'm still not even halfway done. I've done 27 items (mainly with Nick) but some items with other people. It is something I am proud of and work hard at.
Do you have a bucket list, if so, let me know what some of your items are by commenting below!

Spring In Charleston
As if I needed anymore reasons to love Charleston, I have one of those days that makes me realize how blessed I am to live in such a beautiful destination. Nick and I had lunch together, visited gardens and when I got off work we sat by the water and ate a nice dinner!
I hope you're enjoying your spring! Here are a few pictures!

Kiss Longer
This morning I was almost ready to head out the door for work when Nick said this. You know how we always meet each other at the door and kiss each other when we leave and get back from work? Well, I have always wondered why it is so hard for some people to do that. I once was with my friend and his wife was leaving and he told her bye and she left. Granted they were been married a while, but I still asked him how hard it would have been to kiss her goodbye and walk her to the door. Even though they were married a while, I still hope that's something I never stop doing.
This my friends, proves I have one of the best boyfriends EVER! I know I brag about him a lot, but he is something special! It reminded me of how important the small things are in life and relationships. It even ties back to my date nights post. Never stop looking forward to the small things; and never stop doing the small things that make you smile!

Being In An Interracial Relationship In Dixie
If you're new to my blog, I am in an interracial relationship.
Nick is black and I am white, but to be more specific Nick is French and I am Irish but to be even more specific Nick is Texan and I am Alabamian. We are what we are, whether it be blue, pink, purple or orange. We all bleed red, inhale oxygen and need water to live.
I grew up in the Bible Belt and a good portion of my relatives from both sides of my family are Baptist and preachers at that. When my mom was a girl she even visited a snake-handling church. If you don't get the point by now, I faced adversity by entering an interracial relationship, but not so much from my family (they love him) but from the population in general.
Do I care what people think of us, yes. Now don't get me wrong, I care because Nick and I do get sideways glances and long stares. When I do notice, because there are many times I don't but he does notice, I get defensive. For example: We were grocery shopping one afternoon and an older lady (not to be judgmental but most of our looks come from senior citizens) almost crashed her cart into a display of baked goods. Nick and I were holding hands and I just happened to notice the lady literally staring at us while pushing her cart in the other direction and I got defensive.
Nick always tells me he notices how prideful my mom is and he sees the pride fight in my mom. He says he sees that in me too, especially when situations like that occur. I am very prideful of Nick and our relationship and will defend it until the end of time. I am in the healthiest relationship I have ever been in with someone who is extraordinary. Nick has been, hands down, the best thing that has happened to me. His character is golden and he is amazing overall. I love him to the moon and back.
I feel so many people judge based on color and not character, but to get back to my point, we would all be fibbing if we said we didn't care what people think of us. If we didn't really care we would all be walking around all day in our birthday suits or in our pajamas. We don't because it is socially unacceptable; therefore, we care what people (society) thinks of us so we dress to please. The same is said for our relationship. I care what people think of us because if people look down at us, find us unacceptable or wrong for loving each other then, of course, I care! I care a whole lot.
I titled this blog post Being In An Interracial Relationship in Dixie because that is exactly what we are doing. This post isn't about getting sideways stares by bigots or racists in Dixie. It is about my feelings regarding interracial relationships and equality. Being in Dixie does have some challenges, as I mentioned earlier, from individuals who aren't as open about certain situations but I would be fibbing if I said that only happens in the South. In all 50 states there are people who wouldn't agree with our relationship and that is OK, but disagreeing is a lot different than judging or looking down at people.
Before I finish this post I would like to touch on another topic I hear a lot. The "I don't see color" topic. I definitely see color; I see color because I am more attracted to darker skin. Just as one might be attracted to dark haired women or taller men, I am attracted to darker men. With any relationship there must be an initial attraction and Nick was attracted to me because of my skin color, my country accent and my red hair. I was attracted to him because of his darker skin, broad shoulders and how tall he was. Of course, those are just exterior characteristics because going any deeper would spur another blog post, but you get the point.
Of course everyone sees colors. I like the saying, "Love is colorblind," because love is an emotional, physical, religious, spiritual thing (for lack of a better word) that doesn't see color, but as humans we do. We have eyes and we see with those eyes and we see color with those eyes.
I will wrap this post up by saying this.
"I see color; I see lots of colors. I like to see Nick and I together because I love seeing the contrast in our fingers as they're intertwined and I like to see his big brown eyes gaze at me and his pearly whites smile bright when he laughs. It is love that doesn't see colors and thank goodness for that because if love saw colors we would all be a mess!"

Kids React To Interracial Commercial
As most of you know I am in an interracial relationship. My mom always taught me that we are all equal and that no one should be judged because of how they look, but growing up in the Deep South it is obviously not as accepted by older generations (or so this has been my experience) as I wish. I am not speaking for everyone and I am definitely not speaking for the entire Deep South, but the following video is a great testament to newer generations.

Snow Day or Feast Day?
So this post is a mixture of great grocery deals, my inability to do nothing all day and how it affected my first snow day in Charleston.
---> So to actually get to my point Harris Teeter ran a sale last week for a dozen large-white eggs for .99 and I couldn't pass it up; therefore, I bought five dozen and that leads me to my next point. I think I am incapable of doing absolutely nothing all day unless I am sick. I never really thought about it until one day I told Nick I was going to do nothing all day and finally caved about five hours later. His response was exactly this, "Baby, is there just one day you don't do anything?" Yeah, he got me so with my now-recognized inability to relax, last night I prepped for our first snow day in Charleston. I took the deal I got at Harris Teeter and the other great deal I got at Food Lion (12-ounce bag of fresh cranberries for .50) and made a feast for the entire village.
I decided to use up one of the four bags of cranberries I bought and made homemade cranberry sauce for the first time! I know, it is crazy but I have alway used Ocean Spray canned sauce. In case you want the recipe it is ridiculously simple and can be found right here!12-ounces of cranberries, washed
1-cup of granulated sugar
1-cup water
---> 1. Bring to a boil the water and sugar. Once boiling, pour the cranberries in and continue to boil while stirring occasionally until the skins pop off.
---> 2. Remove from heat and cool to room temperature. Once cooled store in fridge until ready to serve.
Of course I have to include a picture of my final product!
So to finish out this blog post my inability to relax, my great grocery deals and my choice to prepare for any potential snow day concerns led me to this feast.
1 dish of beef stroganoff
1 bowl of homemade cranberry sauce
1 casserole dish of cornbread dressing
10 hard-boiled eggs
16 oatmeal cinnamon cookie bars
Yeah, I went to the extreme for us not to lose power or get snowed in, but now I have dinner and lunch for several days! Hooray for snow days where I lounge, try to do nothing and feast all day. This is like Christmas all over again. Enjoy your snow day Charleston because I sure am.

Our Interracial Relationship Is...
.... also what this video suggests....
I write this post as Nick and I approach our one-year anniversary. I've heard stories of people who were nervous or anxious when they were on their first date with their significant other, but I can happily say I was never nervous. I always felt at ease with him.
Cute - Our first date was on January 4th, 2013 and I remember EXACTLY what happened. I knew he was something special from the moment we started talking. It also took me saying the word "right" four different times before he actually understood because my accent is so thick.
Surprising - We have DEFINITELY had a waitress completely dismiss the fact that Nick was with us one time. She thought he wasn't with me even though we were standing side-by-side in front of my mom and brother... Surprise! Good thing we are light-hearted people and it made us chuckle instead of simmer!
Sexy - Because he is everything I wanted and more in a man and that is definitely sexy.
Weird - Definitely had more than one person tell me that we will have cute babies.
Silly - I laugh more than I can count when I am with him. Just last night we had this really funny event happen. We were looking at Valentine's cards at Target and we both picked separate cards and turned at the exact same time only to switch cards and they both had the same premise. I don't feel like going into too much detail, but it was refreshingly ironic and sweet. I kept laughing for at least a couple of minutes.
Beautiful - Any relationship where you can be yourself and be loved is beautiful.
Educational - Nick has taught me so much and helped me realize things about myself I never knew. Even if it is the simple things such as you can leave leftovers in the oven and not die after eating them or if it is deep-rooted religious information, he has taught me so much. He has made me a better person.
Awkward - Even if it is awkward when I slobber all over his bicep at night or carry on conversations in my sleep.

Why I Celebrate MLK Day
I am in love with someone who, a short 50 years ago, would not be considered equal to me and that is sickening.
Thanks to the bravery and a dream of Martin Luther King, Jr., I am able to kiss my amazing boyfriend goodnight and hear his sweet voice say "Hello, Beautiful" in the morning when I awake.
Why do you celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr.,
Day?
Do you know when and why we celebrate MLK Day in January?
Have you let your child know why we celebrate this man?
Do you teach what he taught us?
If you're having trouble answering any of these questions PLEASE visit this LINK.

I grew up in a small town in northern Alabama where the racial diversity was lack-luster to say the least. We observed MLK Day, but it wasn't until I got older that I realized communities do so much to honor him. When I was young my community didn't hold extra volunteer activities, prayer breakfasts, peace walks, etc to honor MLK Jr. Not to say that my community was terrible, uneducated, etc., but I do believe there could be more to honor him and to educate our children on how important it is to give back to our communities on MLK Day, after all, it is a Day On and not a Day Off.
It wasn't until I moved to college and relocated upon graduation that I really started to understand how imperative it is to celebrate this extraordinary man and legend by giving back to our communities and take time to reflect and observe what he helped make possible today.
His dream specifically touches me because I am in an interracial relationship. I can't imagine a time where I would be seen as better than him. A time where he wouldn't be able to watch a movie at the theater with me or even drink from the same water fountain as me.
Never has MLK Day been as important to me as it has been this year. Nick and I were dating at this time last year but now that we have been together for a year it has really unveiled how important Martin Luther King, Jr., is in my life.

Thank you Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. You have made a huge impact on my life and my future. You did amazing things and I definitely plan to keep inspiring others as you did.

The Big D
No, I am not talking about Divorce or Dallas; I am talking about Deployment. I am in a fairly new (7 months) relationship with an AWESOME man who happens to be in the United States Air Force.
Yesterday I was grabbing my bags to head out of the office for the weekend when he wrote me and let me know his friend had just got back from deployment and he was eating dinner with him. There have been a few waves of his friends returning from deployment including his best friend (who will be home soon!) so I assumed his friend was in the first wave who got back a week or so ago. Turns out Nick and his friend waited on me to get home from work so I could eat dinner with them!
I walked into our apartment and met his friend for the first time. Little did I know as the night unfolded my eyes would be opened to so much. He stood up to shake my hand and after the initial introductions he said, "I just got back." I casually asked him when he got back and his answer was "today." I was floored; he hadn't even been to his barracks yet! He wanted to drive to dinner because it had been so long since he had driven over 15 MPH and wanted that freedom. So as we walked to his truck, he went ahead of Nick and myself so he could clear the back of his truck. When I opened the door he was shuffling things from my side to his side in order for me to have leg room. He didn't realize what all had been back there because, since he was deployed, he left his keys with his friend (as most do). I then realized he literally hadn't been in his car for over six months. Yet again, opening my eyes.
Over dinner I jumped into the conversation ever so often, but I mainly sat back and listened to him and Nick relive past events, talk about past deployments and his recent deployment. When we finished eating we headed back to base so he could relax so we let him be. As we were driving out of the barrack parking lot there were two men, one in uniform and one in civilian clothes, laughing and walking. Nick told me that the guy in civilian clothes had just got back that day also and that was his best friend walking with him.
As our fingers were intertwined and I was able to sit beside my boyfriend, my Airman, I realized just how lucky I was! I was able to touch, kiss and talk to my boyfriend face-to-face in the same room, the same state and the same country. Not too many people can say that and it is a sad fact. On our trip home I kept thinking about how I would feel if that was him coming back from deployment today and how it would feel if I had just seen him for the first time in six months. I am usually really good at treasuring the time we have together, but as we sat cuddled up drinking our wine and watching TV last night it made me realize I should squeeze his hand a little tighter and hold him a little longer.
So for those of you who have Military spouses, girlfriends, boyfriends or even for those who don't, please cherish the small things in life. Kiss a little more, hug each other everyday and have that dinner date ever so often. Embrace the moment because when it comes down to it, isn't that all we have?
