He found a sand dollar and it made his day. :) |
Hilton Head Island, S.C. Part II
OK, so it is late here and I just took some medicine for my allergies but I had to write. Previously I just posted some pictures of Kameron at the beach. This is his first trip to the ocean (that he remembers).
Everyone knows how much I enjoy the ocean and to experience this type of coastal region is an awesome vacation for me. I have always wanted to live by the sea, but until I rode through the coastal area of South Carolina, I felt like I had not experienced an area of the coast I wanted to reside long term at as much as I do here. It has that Old Southern feel and it is refreshing. It is true when people say Florida is not part of the south. Florida does have a feel that no other place has, but this region is comforting. It has a homey feel. The weather is absolutely amazing and the people are friendly. (This is probably because I am at a tourist-hot spot, but who cares! Let me think what I think ha). The buildings are all brick and beautiful!
One interesting thing I like to do on vacations is distinguish the living styles of each state. I like to recognize how different the house structures and styles are than in Alabama. Mark my word that I will probably post some pictures before this trip is over that has house structures and styles.
Kameron was jumping at every opportunity to get on that sand. I definitely didn't expect to come to the ocean and NOT get on that sand myself on the first day. So mom and me went to check in while Justin took Kameron to the fence to gaze at the coast. Kameron jogged back to the car and was ready to put his trunks on before we could say SWIM! I hope that before this trip is over he can at least get more than his feet wet! He brought a jar from our house and we are going to wake up super early and hit the sand to get shells before a lot of beach-goers get there too! I told him I would wake him up and we would bundle up and head out! He actually started picking up shells last night and found a sand dollar. I glanced down and saw it. I asked him if it was a sand dollar or just some sand. It was half covered with sand and he was more than willing to check it out! He dusted it off and realized it was a sand dollar. He immediately snatched it up and started examining it. I asked him if he wanted to rinse it off in the ocean and hold onto it. Needless to say he started running for the water.
Anyways we can't put his shells in the jar until we get a bottom layer of sand in there. I didn't go to the ocean until I was 18-years-old and I remember everything I wanted to do and wished I would have brought back and I am making sure Kameron experiences and gets everything a kid would want on a trip like this! Tomorrow we are purchasing a boogie board and we will see where that goes. I asked him if he wanted to get a Hermit Crab and now he is intent on that (sorry Stephanie)! He never thought we were never going to make it here and once we got here he was the first one to step foot outside the car. I am excited he likes it so much and just hope he can stand the five days we are booked for. I need to plan our days out carefully or he will stay bored! Tomorrow afternoon we are hitting the road and walking around to the shops. There is a St. Patrick's Day parade, but I don't have all the information on that quite yet. Something to look into. Well, my medicine is kicking in and I am phasing out. Look for more posts tomorrow and the following days while we are here!
I think I am the only person in this world that has never seen or heard of Peace Iced Tea. This sums up my trip over to HHI. |
My room is done in a nautical theme and this bed is so adorable. The ribbon band on the pillows are too cute. It gives me a new idea for my room! |
